Authorities responded to reports of an “active shooter” near a medical building in Cedar Hill on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in a fast-paced response and a dramatic turn of events.
The suspect, armed with a “long gun,” was taken into custody after officers discharged their firearms during a confrontation. The incident unfolded in the 900 block of East Belt Line Road, close to South Waterford Oaks Drive.
At approximately 12:15 p.m., Cedar Hill police were alerted to the shooting and promptly dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim on the ground with gunshot wounds. Simultaneously, another officer noticed a man fitting the suspect’s description driving away in a black four-door Chrysler.
As the suspect fled, a collision occurred with another vehicle in the 700 block of East Belt Line Road. Officers, still in pursuit, observed the suspect inside the Chrysler with his weapon and responded by discharging their firearms. In total, five officers fired their weapons. The officers immediately provided life-saving aid to the suspect until emergency medical personnel arrived.

Cedar Hill Police Chief Ely Reyes confirmed during a news conference that the suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was transported to the hospital and is currently in critical condition. The initial gunshot victim near the medical building was also taken to the hospital, with authorities reporting that the victim is expected to be in stable condition.
Additionally, a third individual, identified as the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash after the shooting, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
As per department protocol, all the officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation into the incident is conducted.
