Greenfield – A routine welfare check took a tragic turn when a 42-year-old Milwaukee woman lost her life after being accidentally run over by a Greenfield Police Department squad car. The incident occurred on Thursday evening, leaving the community in shock and raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the accident.
According to a news release from the Greenfield Police Department, officers responded to a call for a welfare check for a female in distress in the 5000 block of South 34th Street at approximately 6:24 p.m. Little did they know that the woman was lying in the roadway at the time.

The woman was transported to Froedtert Hospital with what was initially believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, her condition worsened, and she later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, marking a heartbreaking end to the unfortunate incident.
As per standard protocol in such cases, the officer involved in the accident has been placed on administrative leave, providing time for investigations to take place. The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be leading the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident, while the Wisconsin State Patrol will be conducting a thorough reconstruction of the accident scene.
