The Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit has named Ronald L. Curnow, age 23, and Payne R. Morse, age 22, as the two people they think killed Jimmie E. Johnson III, age 42, on Wednesday.
Morse was picked up the same day. The case was brought to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office, and Morse was charged with being a criminal in possession of a gun and tampering with evidence. Morse is in the Greene County Jail, where he is being held on a $50,000 bond.
Thursday, Curnow was put in jail. After reviewing the case, the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office charged Curnow with first-degree murder and being a criminal in possession of a gun. Curnow is being held without bond in the Greene County Jail.
He Died There From His Injuries
Just before 2 a.m., someone called the cops to say that someone had been shot behind a house at 2304 N. National Ave. When the police arrived, they found a man with a gunshot wound lying in the garden.
Johnson, the victim, was taken to the hospital, but he died there from his injuries. The family of Johnson has been told.
