After a water rescue on Saturday afternoon on Miramar Beach, two persons were taken to the hospital, where they remain in critical condition. The third person is in stable condition in the hospital. At 12:52 p.m., the incident occurred.
Near 1115 Scenic Gulf Drive, or about 0.3 miles from the nearest lifeguard tower, a concerned citizen called South Walton Fire and reported that numerous people were having trouble in the water. Multiple victims were caught in a rip current when SWFD Beach Safety units and officers arrived.
“According to bystanders on shore, a teenage male had been struggling in the water and members of his family had entered the water to attempt to rescue him,” a release from South Walton Fire states.
“Lifeguards and deputies then entered the water and found two adult men were unresponsive and required resuscitation. The teenage male was in stable condition but required further medical attention.” The two unresponsive patients were hauled to shore by deputies and lifeguards, who immediately began providing them with lifesaving care.

They were taken by ambulance to the nearest medical center. “SWFD ALS crews reported a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in one of the two patients, which indicates the patient had regained a pulse,” the release states.
At this moment, SWFD has no new information to share about the patients. Single red flags were displayed during the incident. “Due to the number of rescues and potential for further life-threatening injuries, beach flags were changed to double red Saturday afternoon,” the release states.
