Early Friday afternoon, her child shot and killed her in their home in Ohio, police said.
The shooting also killed the baby that was still inside the woman.
David Smith, the Norwalk Police Chief, said that at 1:11 p.m., 31-year-old Laura Ilg called the police to say that her 2-year-old son had found the gun and shot her.
When police officers got to the house, they kicked in the door to get in. When Smith found Ilg and her son in the master bedroom upstairs, she was awake but in a lot of pain.

Ilg told the police that there were safety steps in place, but she didn’t know that the child had picked up the gun while she was doing laundry.
Smith said that she had called her husband, but he couldn’t answer because he was at work.
Ilg was taken to Fisher-Titus Medical Center to get medical help, but about an hour later, her unborn baby died, cops said. A little after 5 p.m., Ilg died from her wounds.
“If you haven’t heard, Laura and our baby son Talisen died on Friday. I can’t describe the hurt and loss I feel. Her husband, Alek Ilg, wrote on Facebook Monday night, “She was, is, and will always be the love of my life.”
