3 Dead, Multiple Injured in Maryland Home Mass Shooting

On Sunday, at least three people were killed and three others were injured in a random shooting at a private property in an otherwise peaceful area in Annapolis, Maryland. Chief Ed Jackson of the Annapolis Police Department said that an exchange of gunfire occurred in the 1000 block of Paddington Place in the state capital city and that a suspect is currently in custody.

At least three people have been confirmed dead by authorities, contradicting original claims of one death. One survivor was taken to a trauma facility by helicopter, but authorities have not released their status. Police in Annapolis have indicated there is no longer any danger to the public.

The incident occurred south of the city’s central business district, close to the coastline, and several police cars were spotted in the area. Chief Jackson told reporters, “My message to the community is this wasn’t a random act of violence.”

The below tweet verifies the news:

According to The Baltimore Sun, the police chief reportedly stated that a “person of interest” had been taken into custody and that a firearm had been recovered at the scene of the shooting. Sarah Elfreth, a state senator, posted about the shooting on Facebook and called it “a tragedy beyond words.”

“Our community experienced a tragedy beyond words this evening,” she wrote. “Multiple fatalities and injuries are reported. A suspect is in custody and police are communicating that there is no broader threat to the public. Please keep the family and the first responders of the Annapolis Police Department & Annapolis Fire Department in your thoughts tonight.”

DC News Now was informed by neighborhood residents that a graduation celebration was taking place nearby. The shooting’s connection to the event is unclear.
