Arkansas Man Sentenced to Over 4 Years in Prison for Beating Police Officer with Flagpole During Capitol Riot

In a significant development, Peter Francis Stager, a 44-year-old resident of Conway, Arkansas, was sentenced on Monday for his involvement in the Capitol riot earlier this year. Stager received a prison sentence of more than four years after pleading guilty to charges of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers using a deadly or dangerous weapon, as reported by the Department of Justice.

The sentencing also included 36 months of supervised release and a restitution order of $2,000, emphasizing the severity of the actions committed during the January 6, 2021, riot.

Details of the incident revealed that on that fateful day, Stager observed fellow rioters launching an attack on police officers and dragging them. Subsequently, he participated in the violence by wielding a flagpole with the American flag attached, repeatedly striking a downed police officer at least three times, according to the DOJ’s statement.

The tweet below verifies the news:

Additionally, Stager was caught on camera berating another officer on the ground, yelling, “Fk you! Fking traitor!” The court documents presented further evidence of Stager’s aggressive behavior and incendiary statements during the riot.

In a disturbing display of hostility towards law enforcement, Stager openly expressed his contempt for the Capitol law enforcement officers, stating, “Death is the only remedy for what’s in that building.” His inflammatory comments and violent actions undoubtedly added to the chaos and danger during the riot.

This sentencing serves as a stern warning to those who participated in the Capitol riot that their actions have serious consequences. As the nation continues to reckon with the events of January 6, this case underscores the ongoing efforts to hold accountable those responsible for the violence and destruction witnessed that day.
