Who Was Russ Martin?
American radio host from Dallas, Texas who went by the name “Russ Martin.” On October 4, 1960, he was born in Dallas, Texas. For 31 years, Russ was a fixture in the Dallas radio scene.
The Russ Martin Show, which he hosted on KLLI Live 105.3 in Dallas, was the station’s most popular program until its format changed to an all-sports format on December 8, 2008.

He had finished high school and received his diploma from W.W. Samuell. In the 1980s, he started out at KGVL 1400 AM in Greenville, Texas, where he ran the board for religious programming from 6:00 pm until midnight.
According to the latest from Russ Martin, he has joined the staff of Dallas’s KEGL, the Eagle, a top 40 radio station. In addition, he presided over a KEGL chat show every Sunday evening.

In 2008, Russ’s long career was interrupted when his radio station, Live 105.3, began airing only sports programming. Previous to joining the station in 2000, he presented the shows Hot TV and Hot Tickets on the local Fox affiliate KDAF.
He was reportedly given $1.1 million by CBS to go silent after being fired from Live 105.3. Russ passed the time by making a film on the police force in a tiny town.
In 2010, Russ went back to radio, this time hosting The Russ Martin Show on The Eagle 97.1. They included Dan O’Malley, Trey Trenholm, Clo Raborn, and Everett Newton, all of whom had previously worked with him on the radio. Notable in his absence was his former co-host J.D. Ryan, with whom he had a falling out in 2009.
Unluckily, Russ’s career ended on February 27, 2021, when he was found comatose in his house. A buddy had gone to see how Russ was doing earlier that day, and he was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. Although the authorities have not yet identified what caused his death, they do not believe foul play was involved.
The following day on The Eagle, viewers and hosts alike remembered their pal with touching tributes.
Dan O’Malley noted that people closest to Russ were grieved by the news but not wholly unsurprised after the broadcast aired, implying that Russ’ untimely death could have been caused by more serious health problems.

Fans And Friends Of Russ Martin Were Saddened By His Passing, But His Work Will Live On
In 2002, Russ established The Russ Martin Listeners Foundation to aid the families of fallen Dallas-Fort Worth police officers and firefighters.
Over $500,000 has been raised by the foundation for the families of Dallas-Fort Worth first responders through the annual “Heroes Day Parade” that is coordinated by the organization.
It’s worth noting that Russ was a divisive personality who had previously been arrested on accusations of domestic assault against his then-girlfriend before getting into a public spat with former co-host J.D. After Russ entered a plea of no contest to the charges against him, the pair broke up.
In addition to the monetary penalty, Russ was placed on two years of probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine.
Although Russ may not have always been liked by everyone, his generosity has been recognized throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Loved ones, acquaintances, and admirers of Russ will miss him dearly.
